The Central Government is going to make it mandatory to link Voter ID with Aadhaar. The Law Ministry has accepted the suggestion received by the Election Commission in this regard. The ministry is preparing a cabinet note for this law. It will be presented before the Cabinet Committee headed by the Prime Minister. The Law Ministry said that in this process some way should be found to eliminate the possibility of data theft.
Expected to present note for legislation before the budget
The official said that it is yet to be done by the Law Ministry It has not been decided when he will present the note in front of the cabinet, but indicated that it can be placed before or during the budget session. According to the report, the Law Ministry has given permission for this with certain conditions. After the approval of the Law Ministry, the Election Commission can get the legal right to link the Voter ID to the Aadhar card.
The proposal was sent last year
The Election Commission made a proposal before the government in August last year. Was It said that the Representation of the People's Act 1950 should be amended to give people the right to take Aadhaar from the people and use it in voter ID.
What will happen next?
The proposal will be put in the cabinet , Where a change will be made in the law if passed. The Election Commission will start the process after the legislation is passed by both houses of Parliament. People whose Voter IDs remain, will be told the procedure to link Aadhaar. Aadhaar will be sought to add new names.
Fake voters will be banned.
The Election Commission says that this will help in identifying fake voters. The amendment also states that in the event of not providing the Aadhaar number, no name will be removed from the voter list nor will they be prevented from giving enrollment.
According to 2019 data, 90 crore voters

It is not compulsory to link PAN number to Aadhaar
Gujarat High Court has said that PAN card cancellation even if Supreme Court's decision is not linked to Aadhaar (Inoperative) cannot be done. The Income Tax Department has set a deadline of 31 March 2020 to link PAN with Aadhaar. By this date, if a person's PAN card is not linked to Aadhaar, his PAN number will become inoperative. The High Court said that the validity of the Aadhaar Act is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court. In such a situation, no decision can be taken on linking PAN and Aadhaar.
