Udaipur. Distinguished Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman Rajesh Chaplot was awarded the Uganda's highest civilian award (Golden Jubilee Medal-Civilians). The award was presented by the Honorable President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni during a recent ceremony in Kampala. The award was given to Mr. Chaplot for his significant achievements in the field of promoting trade, commerce, social service and improving India-Uganda relations. Chaplot, a native of Udaipur in Rajasthan, has also had the distinction of being honored with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest award for Indians living abroad. He was honored by His Excellency the President of India, Honorable Ramnath Kovind, in Varanasi last year.
Regarding receiving the award from the President of Uganda, Rajesh Chaplot said, "I am both in my birthplace (India) and Karmabhoomi (Uganda)." I am honored to receive the award from the Honorable President of India. I would like to thank my friends, family and colleagues on this occasion, who became my partner and supported me in a fantastic journey of more than 2 decades in Uganda. I will keep trying to make positive contribution not only to my Karma Bhoomi-Uganda, but also to Janma Bhoomi-India, moving in this direction.
Rajesh Chaplot Sampatlal, a native of Udaipur. And Shyamadevi is the son of Chaplot. His two brothers, Dr. Chander Chaplot and Dilip Chaplot, live in Udaipur. Mr. Chander is an ENT Specialist, while Dilip is a Mechanical Engineer. His third brother Prakash Chaplot is a software engineer in the US. Rajesh Chaplot did his schooling from St. Paul's School in Udaipur. He then obtained a CA degree from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Delhi. In 1996, Mr. Chaplot moved to Africa from India. He first went to Congo and two years later moved to Uganda. He has kept Indian fame high in his significant achievements.
At present, Mr. Chaplot is leading different companies and trade associations in Uganda and Congo. They are in different roles in these companies and business associations. He has been appointed as Managing Director, CEO, Director and Board Member in several companies. He has also been the former President of the Indian Association of Uganda and the General Secretary of the Indian Business Forum there. Apart from this, he has also served as the board member of the Manufacturers Association of Uganda. Rajesh Chaplot lives in Kampala with his wife Pratibha. He has two daughters Kriti and Savi, who are currently working in London and Dubai respectively.
